Our alliance

With more than 1 500 branches in 35 countries, the Ecobank Nedbank alliance is the largest banking network in Africa.

The Ecobank Nedbank alliance is a client-focused initiative aimed at affording banking clients the convenience, accessibility, and many benefits of a One Bank experience across the 35 African countries making up the alliance footprint. By delivering country-specific, tailored banking solutions across Africa the alliance effectively simplifies banking for its corporate and individual clients by making day-to-day transactional banking, financing and investment banking advisory services readily available to them.

A central alliance office provides a dedicated banking solutions unit that has the capacity to assist alliance businesses, across Africa, to deliver tailored client-need-driven solutions. At the same time, a global coverage model means that clients enjoy a single point of contact for all their transactional and lending requirements. This approach creates greater accountability and ownership among alliance businesses and employees, thereby ensuring consistently excellent client service.

The alliance's commitment to providing a One Bank experience is significantly supported through its advanced technical infrastructure and an array of technology initiatives aimed at making banking simpler and easier for clients. Recently these innovations have included:
   
1        Enabling Ecobank regional cardholders to withdraw funds from their Ecobank accounts via 1 860 Nedbank ATMs across South Africa. This groundbreaking initiative increases ATM accessibility for a million Ecobank regional cardholders, and provides a safer and cheaper alternative to traditional currency conversion.
2 Integrating banking and technology platforms, which has provided clients with the ability to have a single view of bank balances and provided seamless management of accounts held with both banks.
3 Developing an account opening system that simplifies and streamlines the process of opening accounts for clients across the combined footprint of 35 countries.
4 Implementing an alliance website with client communication functions aimed at supporting clients.
   
These initiatives, combined with a global coverage model, enable alliance clients to enjoy a smooth flow of transactions regardless of the alliance partner bank with which they hold their primary bank account.

The success of the alliance was recognised when the Ecobank and Nedbank groups were jointly awarded Most Innovative Bank of the Year at the 2010 African Banker Awards ceremony held in Washington DC in October 2010.
